SATURDAY, JUNE 11— The State Theater • Austin, TX
A collaboration project under the auspices of Literary Managers and Dramaturgs of the Americas (LMDA) and Austin Script Works (ASW). As part of a national conference, four teams each consisting of a local playwright, a local musician and a national dramaturg were commissioned to explore the process of live storytelling culminating with a 15-minute stage performance. I was teamed with Dan Dietz (playwright) and D.J. Hopkins (dramaturg).

SUNDAY, JUNE 5—The Knitting Factory • New York City, NY
This was a last minute fill-in gig for an artist who could not do the show. It was in the Tap Bar with Battlestar America, Stop & Listen Boys & Booglerizers.

Very few in-town shows happened but, for most of the year (Feb-Nov), there was the Tuesday evening happy hour show at Beerland • Austin, TX
It was a heckling, good time with my friend Charlie of "Holy Happy Hour" fame. We started doing this show just after the first of the year and kept doing til it got a bit impractical for both our schedules.

A quick recap of 2004...

December 18— Artists Coop Benefit • Austin, TX
This was a show that featured art by death row inmates. I shared a bill with Mr. Scott H. Biram.

November 6-7— Austin Celtic Festival • Austin, TX
There was almost a revival of DeLorean Mechanics at this one but, alas, no. Instead, it was the Spot / Albert duo but this time we had Tom ex-Mechanic bassist sitting in with us on a few tunes. Great fun! Too bad a bass string broke (unthinkable!) at the beginning of the first day's set.

September 10-12— CelticFest • Jackson, MS
Another great, fun festival with Spot & Albert, the duo!

August 5 — Bouldin Creek Coffeehouse • Austin, TX
Another sundown show under the big oak tree at my favorite coffeehouse.

July 25— Beerland • Austin, TX
A last minute benefit for a good friend caught in a bad motorcycle accident.

July 1— Bouldin Creek Coffeehouse • Austin, TX
Ralph White showed up and we played some great tenor banjo and fiddle duets.

June 22— Church of the Friendly Ghost • Austin, TX
A great performance space that used to be a neighborhood church/meeting hall. I shared the bill with
Ralph White, the ex-Bad Liver; Walter Daniels, the harmonica/reed man/Eugene Chadbourne sideman; and John Wesley Coleman III. It was great to not have to play the "hits" at this show. Just the subtle, serious compositional pieces. Hooray!

June 14— Fiesta Gardens • Austin, TX
This was the Tenth Anniversary Party for Lovejoy's Taproom (where I work). Ten more years? Sure, why not?

May 28— Whisky Dix • Lubbock, TX
A great show up in the flatlands! This gig was courtesy of a fan who saw me open for Mike Watt in 2002 (on the "Our Oars Became Wings" tour) and convinced me to go back up there and do another show. Definitely a fun time!

May 2— Tacoland • San Antonio, TX
A shared bill with Eugene Chadbourne at the nondescript but legendary bar under the big gnarled oak tree on the river bank.

March 18—Lovejoy's • Austin, TX
An afternoon show during the debacle that is SXSW. But, since this had nothing to do with the festival itself, it was a damn fine time playing on a bill with Shandom Sahm (Doug's kid), the rock & roll animal.

March 10—Flipnotics • Austin, TX
A double bill with SPOT and Freddy "Steady" Krc. For those who don't know, Freddy once drummed for Mr. Roky Erickson and there's a reason folks call him Freddy Steady. This was one of those "get on stage together and wing it" kinda gigs doing original material and remembering all kindsa songs from the past that hadn't been thought about in years. Damn, a fun show!!
